Salvaged Materials inspire and challenge me to paint in a way that conventional canvases do not. I spent a lot of time on a farm where old building materials - barn wood, window frames, doors, shutters, corrugated tin roofing - had been squirreled away. I had unfettered access to it all. I still love using  'canvases' like this which have so much innate character that influence what gets created.
